I LOVE dressing my characters. Over the years lots of readers (and their parents) have sent me their Truly Tan pics from Book Week. I’ve compiled my own little parade to give you some ideas. See below.
Scroll down for other costume ideas, too! Plus a little bit about my next TV appearance.
Truly Tan
Hello? This Tan Callahan even has Liberty, the bearded lady, tucked under her arm!Tan and her best friend, Gloria Pappos. The likeness is uncanny. What a fantastic shot!Snazzy suggestions from the design team at HarperCollins Publishers. Thanks, lads!Step-by-step instructions from Truly Tan illustrator, Claire Robertson. Thanks, Claire! This is the first Truly Tan pic I ever received. From Book Week, 2013, I think. I remember this gorgeous girl cut up her dad’s shirt to make the green cardi. Someone has to suffer for our art, right?Okay. Amazebubbles! This one is definitely channeling Tan. Spooky! Two more adorable Tans, totally rockin’ it!
Want to dress like Danny Best? Too easy! Orange t-shirt, green checked shorts, blonde wig. Personally, I’d go as Mae, Danny’s friend. She only ever wears a cow onesie…
Danny Best Full OnThat’s Danny Best on far right! To be screened on Channel 9, (9Go!), during Book Week. There will also be an interview with Mitch Vane and I. I’ll share more details soon. This pic from Instagram. Do you follow me on Insta? Do ya, do ya?Mae Sing ( left), one of Danny Best’s ragtag friends. Illustration, Mitch Vane. Thanks, Mitch!
Who would I go dressed as? Weeeell, I’d probably go as Matron Pluckrose from Tensy Farlow and the Home for Mislaid Children: 1950s New Look, blonde wig like Patsy from Ab Fab and fox fur stole. Sans the cigarettes, of course…
Or, I’d go dressed as Reafen, the goblin elder, in The Fourteenth Summer of Angus Jack: Faded ball gown (the more garish the better) black wig piled high, pink feather boa, loads of bling, and Blundstone work boots.
Reafen knows how to put an outfit together. Illustration by Lucinda Gifford. Thanks, Lucinda!
